Turn on the sprinkler, fill up the kiddie pool, and fire up the grill. Summertime is here!
When the weather heats up, some families make sun safety a priority and use sunscreen diligently all season long. Unfortunately, a lot of us don’t realize that sun care should be a daily habit 365 days a year. The good news is, it’s not too late to start.
Less than 10% of all Americans wear sunscreen daily, and DermalYouth feels it’s time to change that. Teaching children to protect their skin every day is just as important as teaching them to brush their teeth. Summer is the perfect time to make sunscreen a part of your kids’ daily skincare routine. If they don’t have a regimen yet, please make establishing one a priority.
Sure, it may seem like a pain to add one more task when your family already has a lot on its plate, but consider this — one in five Americans will get skin cancer.
Skin cancer prevention starts with children. After all, they will receive 80% of their lifetime UV exposure by their 18th birthdays. Also, it’s known that a child doubles her/his chance of developing skin cancer after receiving just five sunburns.
But with all these warnings comes a bit of hope: protecting your children’s skin is easy — and it only takes about 10 seconds. Simply teach them to apply DermalYouth before or after tooth brushing in the morning and the evening. This way, when they’re hanging-out with their friends or doing cannonballs off the nearest diving board, you’ll know their skin is protected from the sun’s damaging rays.
The Internet is full of articles about which type of sun protection you should use for your kids, and it can be overwhelming & confusing — so we’ll make it easy. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or higher every single day. For extended high sun activities such as going to the pool or the beach, the Foundation recommends using a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
DermalYouth is backed by the Skin Cancer Foundation and is dedicated to protecting your family’s skin every single day. Check out our Day & Night Children’s Skin Care System and high sun products for #PeaceOfMind365.
